**HOLDING COURT** ACBP - Shallow DOF
Uploaded: July 27, 2008 05:14:18
Although the DOF could have been shallower, I wanted the most foreground coneflower to stand out above the rest but still have the viewer be able to see what was "behind and around" her, having enough separation between the "queen" and her "court". Set-up: ISO 100, f 2.5 and a fast shutter speed of 1/1600 as this was hand-held.
Exif: F Number: 2.5, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/1600 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 100, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 50.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 30D

Irene, I can't tell you how many coneflower pics I have. I need to "weed" a bunch out. I liked the implied movement in this one as well as "her" being surrounded by her "court". Post some coneflowers for us to see of your garden. #6245012Aimee C. Eisaman March 16, 2009 0
Fantastic DOF for this flower! Love how the petals are flowing like a grass skirt! Beautiful exposure....I always seem to get these flowers too bright! Congrats on a well deserved EP! :~) #7291746Debbie E. Payne March 16, 2009 0
Thanks, Aimee. I liked this one for that very reason. It looks like the other flowers are forming a skirt around the main flower. Put it in last year and thought I should try again. I'm glad it made the cut. #7292967M.Christine Duncan April 22, 2009 0

Thank you, Joan. Have you been on another trip. Haven't seen much of you lately. Probably trying to get back to "normal", right? And Christine and Sam -- congratulations to both of you for your finalists. I saw a few for each of you didn't I? I really wish there was a way that they would do a list with links so we could be looking for our favorite people as well as seeing them by pictures. #7434925

Thank you Debbra, Aimee and Kelly.Debbra - which of yours made Finalist? Was it one that you submitted to Phellos last month?
Aimee -- Thank you for your support! Now, if you could only teach me how to get my photos to link in the Accomplishment thread so I could share with you all without re-creating the wheel...
And Kelly, thank you for your comments. I visited your gallery and you have lots of amazing images in there; especially your florals. I am flattered that mine caught your eye! #7436640

It's very evident that I haven't been on this thread for a very long time. So apologies are in order for not thanking all of you for stopping in to congratulate me on this one. Soon it will be coneflower time and I will be out in my backyard shooting my own flowers and the neighbors will sigh and say, "There she goes again...what could possibly be that interesting in your own backyard. So thank you, Kathe, Sherry, Eugenio, Sabrina for your special trophy, Cathy, Donna, Linda, Dominick and Karol. And by the way, Karol, I figured out how to do painterly images without Painter. It's called SnapArt2 and I LOVE it for it's ease. Certainly can't replace what you do but it's fun and quick! #7561656
